Weather forces changes to area tournaments

Rainy weather on Friday resulted in more changes to the District 9 Class A Boys’ Tennis Team Championship.

Weather impacted the tournament throughout the week, with the opening round match between fourth seeded ECC and fifth seeded Bradford that was originally scheduled for Monday only being able to finally be played on Thursday. ECC defeated Bradford by a score of 5-0.

The semifinal match between the winner of that contest and top seeded St. Marys Area was originally slated for Wednesday but ended up being postponed until Friday due to the delays.

Following Friday’s rainout, the semifinal match between St. Marys Area and ECC has now been moved to Wednesday, May 12, which was originally the day the championship match of the tournament was supposed to be played. The semifinal will be played at 3:30 p.m. at St. Marys Area High School.

The other semifinal between second seeded Punxsutawney

and third seeded Clearfield was able to be played on Wednesday, with Punxsutawney winning 3-2 to advance to the championship match.

The District 9 Class AA Boys’ Tennis Team Championship is now tentatively scheduled to be decided on Thursday, May 13 at a site and time to be announced.
