High school shooters bring home trophies from championships

By Jessica Decker Staff Writer

On Saturday, a group of student athletes went to Generations Skeet Club to compete in the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) Skeet Championship.

During this shoot, the student-athletes competed in both squad events as well as individual events. Squads are a group of individuals that compete altogether.

At the SCTP skeet championships, the shooters all did well and managed to bring home quite a few different trophies.

The varsity squad, which consisted of Allison Shaffer, Zach Mosier, and Andrew Gerber, took first place in their division with a 270 out of 300.

The junior varsity squad, which consisted of Tyler Geitner, Eli McKay, and Aidan McKay, took first place in their division with a 269 out of 300.

The next squad, which consisted of Adam Bobenrieth, Trenton Paropacic, and Brock Barnett, took first place in their division with a 249 out of 300.

For the individual events, Shaffer took first place for the varsity singles with a 99 out of 100. McKay took second place in the junior varsity single with a 92 out of 100.

“It was a good experience for us and a great day to shoot,” Mosier said. “It truly was a great day for them to shoot. It was the perfect cool temperature to have the shooters feeling their best out on the line.

Although it was raining, the sky managed to clear up when they were competing and then again when they were having shoot-offs. A shoot-off is when a couple of shooters fire at alternate targets until one or the other drops one. The one that drops one then loses. This only happens when they are tied for a specific place.

“Shooting was nice and we had a fun time together,” McKay said.

McKay added that he was proud of his second place achievement in the junior varsity singles event.

“I was super excited and very proud about winning it,” he said.
