Crusaders blank Bradford 11-0 in five innings

The Elk County Catholic Crusader baseball team shut out the visiting Bradford

Owls by a score of 11-0 in five innings on Monday afternoon at Berwind Park.

Crusaders Joe Tettis and Ben Paul combined for a one-hitter.

Tettis worked the first 2.2 innings, walking two and striking out six. Ben Paul took over for the remaining 2.1 innings, giving up one hit, walking two, and striking out five.

Tettis also helped his own cause in the game with a home run and a triple.

Nolan Roulo, Michael Greenberg, and

Cameron Austin all spent time on the mound for Bradford. Roulo worked the first two innings, giving up seven hits, walking two, and striking out one. Greenberg took over for 1.2 innings, giving up three hits and walking one. Austin pitched the final one third of an inning.

After sending Bradford’s batters down in order in the top of the first, the Crusaders put their first four runs on the board in the home half of the inning.

Luke Ginther led things off with a single and then scored as Lance O’Neill reached base on an error to put ECC on the board 1-0. A single by Tommy Slay moved O’Neill to third, and then O’Neill scored on a single by David Anderson. Joe Geci grounded out, with Slay scoring on the play. Anderson then scored on a single by Dom Zambanini to put the Crusaders up 4-0.

Batters for Bradford again went down in order in the top of the second, and ECC added another run to their lead in the home half of the inning.

Ryan Shaffer led off with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Isaac Dellaquila, and then scored as O’Neill reached base on an error.

The Owls left the bases loaded in the top of the third.

Anderson reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the inning and then scored on a double by Geci. Zambanini drew a walk to join Geci on base, and then Tettis cleared the bases with his home run, making the score 9-0.

Bradford left another runner on base in the top of the fourth, and ECC scored their final two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Ben Reynolds got things going with a two-out single and then scored on a double by Zambanini. Shawn Geci entered as a pinch runner for Zambanini and scored on Tettis’ triple, making the score 11-0.

Matt Miller led off the top of the fifth with a single for Bradford’s lone hit of the game, but the next three batters went down in order to give ECC the 11-0 five-inning victory.

The Crusaders are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday when they host Kane in a 4:15 p.m. game at Berwind Park.
