By Becky Polaski Staff Writer

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader softball team made quick work of the Smethport Lady Hubbers, winning 15-0 in three innings in a Senior Night matchup played at Benzinger Park on Monday afternoon.

Emily Mourer tossed a one-hitter for the Lady Crusaders while also walking one and striking out seven.

While the Lady Crusaders had seven hits in the contests, walks are what doomed Smethport.

Elizabeth Hangiull issued 17 walks in the game while giving up seven hits and striking out three.

Smethport’s lone hit of the game came in the top of the opening inning as Danielle Nelson hit a two-out single for the Lady Hubbers.

ECC put their first six runs on the board in the bottom of the inning.

Three straight walks issued to Gabby Weisner, Lydia Anderson, and Mourer loaded the bases for the Lady Crusaders with no outs. Reagan Bauer entered the game as a courtesy runner for Mourer. With Lucy Klawuhn at bat, Weisner and Anderson scored on separate wild pitches, and then Bauer scored on a double by Klawuhn to give ECC a 3-0 lead.

A single by Sydney Alexander resulted in Klawuhn scoring on the throw to make the score 4-0. Caitlyn Vollmer then drew a walk to join Alexander on base.

With Ellie Baron at bat, Alexander scored on a wild pitch. Baron ended up walking to join Vollmer on base. A single by Hope Farley scored Vollmer making the score 6-0.

The Lady Crusaders left the bases loaded when the inning ended.

In the top of the second, Kristen Dunn drew a two-out walk for Smethport but was left stranded. ECC scored seven more runs in the home half of the inning.

The home half of the inning once again started with three straight walks, this time issued to Klawuhn, Alexander, and Baron, to load the bases with no outs. With Vollmer at bat, Klawuhn and Alexander scored on wild pitches to make the score 8-0. Vollmer also ended up drawing a walk. Sarah Hasselman entered the game as a courtesy runner for Vollmer, and then Farley drew a walk to reload the bases.

With Kat Kirst at bat, Baron scored on a wild pitch. Following a strikeout, Weisner walked to reload the bases.

Hasselman scored on a wild pitch with Anderson at bat. A single by Anderson scored Farley and moved Weisner to third but Anderson was out trying to advance to second on the play.

With Mourer at bat, Weisner scored on a wild pitch. Mourer drew a walk, with Reagan Bauer taking over as a courtesy runner. A single by Klawuhn scored Bauer to extend ECC’s lead to 13-0. Alexander walked to join Klawuhn on base, but then a lineout ended the inning.

Batters for Smethport went down in order in the top of the third, and the Lady Crusaders scored their final two runs in the home half of the inning.

Vollmer led off with a double, with Mya Pistner entering as a courtesy runner. Farley and Kirst then drew backto-back walks to load the bases. Bauer hit into a fielder’s choice, with Pistner scoring on the play but Farley being erased advancing to third.

Following a strikeout, a single by Mourer scored Kirst to end the game with ECC winning 15-0 in three innings.
