Crusader golfers open season with loss to Brockway

By Becky Polaski Staff Writer

After not fielding an official golf team to compete in matches in 2021, Elk County Catholic High School once again has a full team in action this season, and the Crusader golfers hit the links for the first time this season on Thursday morning on the road in a match against Brockway. The Rovers won the match by a score of 193 to 266.

Despite their loss to the more-seasoned Brockway squad, firstyear Crusader head coach Christa Wright remarked that she thought her young team’s first match went very well.

“There were small achievements made, and the team is off to a good start,” Wright said. “I feel that this was a perfect start to a successful season. The team was missing some key players that will assist in the matches to come.”

Brockway’s Weston Pisarchick was the medalist for the day with a round of 46, and his teammate Troy Johnson was one stroke back with a 47. Other scores that counted toward Brockway’s total were 50s by Isaac Crawford and Jacob Newcamp.

Andrew Mawn was the low scorer for the Crusaders with a 64.

Also contributing toward ECC’s total were Marcus Muccio with a 65, Allan Singer with a 68, and Sam Rettger with a 69.

Other Brockway scores were 54s by Chad Young and Park Pisarchick and a 57 by Ryan Crawford. For ECC, Zachary Lynch, Dakota Viglione, and Joel Singer all shot 72s.

“Many of the players from today’s match are new to the golf team and also new to the sport this year,” Wright said.

The ECC golfers are next scheduled to be in action on Aug. 18 at 9 a.m. at the SMA/DuBois Challenge at Bavarian Hills Golf Course.
