Only two cross country runners competed for ECC at junior high level this season

By Becky Polaski Staff Writer

This fall, the Elk County Catholic cross country program was not able to field a girls' or boys' team at the junior high level. In fact, only two runners – both seventh graders – participated in junior high cross country this season. However, both enjoyed their share of success.

ECC cross country head coach Wee J Fernan briefly discussed the junior high cross country runners following his remarks related to the varsity squads at the Elk County Catholic High School Fall Athletic Awards Program.

Competing in junior high cross country for ECC this season were Stella Stebick and Jay Vollmer.

Fernan noted that both runners were focused on becoming their best throughout the season.

“Stella improved her race pace by over three minutes per mile,” Fernan said.

Fernan added that Vollmer, who was often near the front of the pack in the junior high races, improved his race pace by over one minute.

Fernan congratulated both runners on a great season and added that he looked forward to seeing their continued success.
