Crusader baseball team still waiting to open season

By Becky Polaski Staff Writer

Three out of the four local high school softball and baseball teams were able to get their 2023 spring seasons underway last week. The lone exception was the Elk County Catholic Crusader baseball team. The squad is still awaiting the opportunity to take to the field for the first time in an official game this spring.

The Crusaders were originally scheduled to open their season on the road against DuBois Central Catholic on Tuesday, March 21. That matchup ended up being postponed. Their next scheduled game was Thursday, March 23 at Brockway, but rainy weather washed out that contest as well.

Originally, ECC’s matchup against DCC was rescheduled for Friday, April 21. However, it was announced on Friday that it had been rescheduled again and the teams would instead attempt to play it on Saturday, March 25 at noon in DuBois, weather permitting.

Right around the time of the scheduled first pitch, it was announced that the game was postponed and being moved back to its original reschedule date of April 21. It will be played at 4 p.m. at Stern Field in DuBois.

The Crusaders will next try to open their season on Tuesday when they are scheduled to host the Kane Wolves in a 4:15 p.m. game at Berwind Park.
