NY sweeps Big 30 Senior games

PORTVILLE, NY – The Empire State girls won 62-60 and the boys 105-96 to sweep Pennsylvania at Sunday’s Big 30 Basketball Senior Classic at Central High School.

Aaron Sorg from Ridgway, Johnsonburg’s Aaron Myers, Adam Straub and Mike Jacobs from Elk County Catholic, Izzy Catalone and Tanner Fox from St. Marys, and Kane’s Cora Jekielek participated.

The New York girls have won six straight. The Empire State boys avenged last year’s loss and take a 4-3 lead in the series that started in 2015. There were no games in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19.

Myers was also the recipient of one of the Scholarships awarded to a player from each team.
